Leadgate is a village

in County Durham, in England. It is situated to the north-east of Consett. The Roman road Dere Street runs straight through the middle of Leadgate, today this is known as Durham Road and the B6309.

Leadgate was the home of the workers and staff of the Eden colliery which opened in 1844, and was closed on the 18 July 1980. It was also home to many working for the Consett Iron Company (about 2 miles away) and which closed in the 1980s.

More about Leadgate

Leadgate now stands as a small village with a close-knit community. Plans to regenerate the area have been on the local councils’ planning board for some time and improvements are being made.

The Best Experience Ever

Leadgate is my village, my home, I was born and bred in Leadgate, it is the place where I will remain until the day I move to a better place. Upstairs, God Willing, Leadgate has some negatives but it is superseded by many positives, the main positive being its people, it’s Community, steeped in its history, but always looking positively forward to a fresh and better future, by providing excellent education, progressive development for our children, always supported by the residents and community of LEADGATE.
