Leadgate & District History Society Have Now Disbanded. This sad event came about because of the ill health of their founder member, Mr Bill Stockdale. This page will be left up in memory of Leadgate & District History Society. If anyone would like to resurrect the Leadgate & District History Society this page is for you. Just let me know and I’ll give you access to this page.

    I’m researching for a book I’m putting together on the brickworks and bricks of
    North West Durham. A site in Leadgate noted a brickworks which apparently closed in 1924 at Villa Real. Anything come up on this topic and hopefully an example of some of the bricks that were made

  3. Hi. Not sure if this is the right place to ask this question, but it’s the best i can find so here we go. We live in 1 Eden Vale Mews – at the west end of Front st. having a new paved front yard put in and the buildrs have uncovered what looks like a cellar – double brick roof and old rotten timbers. Since the old maps show this location as being a pub (on 1916 map and other places), I wondered if anyone in the historical society has any knowledge of this pub, what it was called, when it closed etc?

Ivor, I do hope you had an answer to this from Martin as the pub you now live on the site of was once very well known indeed and there are a multitude of very interesting threads on the Leadgate Village fb – this is what we essentially use as a village forum and this part of what we do works really well….
